I decided a few days ago to write this article as something funny, and as a way to make people aware as to what a Raid Leader/Officer does on a daily basis, this is a raid day. This is my raid day:
6:30-Alarm goes off, I hit snooze.
6:45- Hit snooze for the 2nd time and actually get up. Get in the shower. Realize that you didn’t turn OFF the alarm, and hear your husband begrudgingly get up and turn it off.
7:45- Leave for work, and hope that there is enough time to get breakfast.
8:00- Hit traffic, review the last raid in your head while cursing the Carolla in front of you.
9:00-Get to work, check MMO and see if there are any hot fixes.
9:05- There aren’t…think about how to impress upon your raid that you only have to run in a circle to avoid the circles on Imperial Vizier Zor’lok.
Noon: Eat some lunch, get your first text from your tank concerning how the last raid went, and how we’re going to fix it this time.
Get Text from DPS, saying they got another piece of gear and so they’ll be doing more damage. Never get a text from your healers, cause healers never think it’s their fault.
2:30- Realize that you don’t have pots or flasks for tonight.
2:35- Call your husband and ask him to get your pots and flasks before raid.
4:00- Start watching the clock only 2 more hours till you start to close. Get your first text from a DPS saying he might not make it tonight. Go to the website and see who signed up as a stand in. Log onto remote chat, put your phone face down till your boss leaves, pick it back up and see if your stand in is logged on and tell him that you might need him tonight.
4:15- Your DPS texts you that everything is fine, his dog is no longer on fire and he will be there tonight.
4:16-You wonder why you gave your raid your phone number.
5:00-Only one more hour and then you can close this insanity called your job, and head home. SHIT what’s for dinner. SHIT what’s the Stone Guard comp this week?
5:05- Text husband to LFR for Stone Guard Comp and make something for dinner. Express your undying love for him and all he does.
5:30-Start going over strat for tonight.
6:00-Start to close at work, and watch a strat video on your phone.
6:30-Leave work, get text from same DPS, he definitely can’t make it tonight. Sit in parking lot remote chatting the back up that he’s coming tonight.
7:30-Get home. Shovel food in your mouth, log on and let the whispers start flying. Including from the DPS that he in fact can make it tonight. Inform him that he is getting a warning, and that he needs to get his schedule together.
7:31-Whisper the back up that while I GREATLY appreciate him standing in, so and so is able to make it tonight, but please to stay logged in for EP/GP and just encase someones house catches on fire.
8:00- OH YEAH! Buff FOOD. Go to Farm>Harvest>Make Food
8:15- Invites and summons.
8:16-Get 3 whispers about needing pots, and flasks.
8:18-Go over once more that pots and flasks need to be taken care of BEFORE raid time.
8:45- Pull 15 minutes late. Receive whispers about that from those that were on time.
That’s an average raid day, good raid days are great, and bad raid days are BAD, so hopefully you guys will give your raid leaders a little bit of a break the next time you think about complaining. (Unless it’s important, then please complain)
/Cheers!
Oh man, that sounds so similar, except Kurby is the raid leader and works. And I’m the guild leader who gets the texts, dinner and flasks/food! At one time I had to ask particular people (no longer in our guild) that my phone was off limits to raid chat.
Most everyone else sends their messages through me to kurby though!
Ain’t it grand?
ROFL, I am dying over here!
This is SO hilariously accurate, one of your best posts in ages. Only thing missing is an entry for:
X:XX – Phone buzzes. Groan inwardly because you KNOW this is going to be bad news.
X:XX+1 – Look at phone. Confirm bad news.
“When in trouble, when in doubt.. Run in circles, scream and shout.”
I love this!! Now.. can you post the during raid fiascos that happen too lol
[...] Night in the Life of a GM Inspire by Aunaka’s post on what a raid leader’s day looks like, I wanted to follow up with my own experiences on what a raid leader’s night looks like. You see, [...]
Very clever! Great perspective and insightful point-of-view. It is a thankless job, I am sure (like most things are).
