Well this morning when I was actually putting my post together I discovered something rather alarming, you see you WERE going to be reading an interview from my guild leader about leadership, but it appears that ALL my mumble files got deleted or they are somewhere in the depth of my computer beyond my fairly capable reach.
So now you get to hear me talk about suddenly becoming an active recruiter again.
Congrats You Get To Hear Whining
Recently I was made an officer in my guild, which is awesome, I had expected it was coming and had made a point to make room in my life for the responsibilities that would come along with it.
I actually read up on some forums of what makes a good officer, while yes it is just a game it is something that I take pride in as well.
So when we were forming our raid groups it was me as a logistics leader I’d get the group together, handle an HR issues that might prop up, and I was in charge of healers and their healing assignments, my dear friend Raineva was the actual raid leader, she handled mechanics calling out strat during raid and in general handling the DPS and Tanks.
We were going to be raiding for 2 nights a week, really easy and casual until we suddenly needed a new healer and a new DPS and couldn’t find any that would raid for only 2 days so everyone, save Raineva, was ok with increasing to 3 days a week.
At this point Raineva has more things on her plate than is healthy, so she stepped down as raid leader and as a steady raider, she’ll fill in when she can and we will all miss her. (PS. We love you Rain!)
So here I am, no raid leader, in need of 2 DPS, since my wonderful husband is sucking it up and healing this expansion AGAIN, sorry honey. Not only that but now I have no raid leader, there are a couple of people that are already in the raid that could take the spot and that I trust, but this is not a decision that I thought I would be making.
So Many Choices
However there is a part of me that is giddy with the idea of finding new players that could also become new friends.
Do I look for ranged or Melee DPS?
Hunter or Monk?
Will they mesh well with our group?
These are the questions that ran through my head first. Which then got me thinking about the people that I currently raid with, I would obviously need to take them into consideration when I look for someone to join us. We are a tight group and when I think of it we can be slightly stand offish to new people. Well I suppose it’s time that we put our big boy pants on and let others into our little circle.
Of course recruiting new raiders bring about the slightly awkward “interview” phase. My always questions are:
What is your past raiding experience?
Why are you leaving your current guild, or why did you already leave your past guild?
What roles are you interested in filling?
Those are the everyday run of the mill questions, along with looking them up in the Armory, and their guild movement on Wow Progress, but I also like to ask them more personable questions:
Would you consider yourself an elitist asshole?
-It helps to see if they can be light hearted, and hopefully they don’t mind swearing.
Who is your favorite raid boss?
-Most people who have raided in the past have a solid favorite boss, and it also gives a good idea if they were LFR raider, how long they’ve really raided for, do they prefer easy bosses, or the hard one, etc.
Here’s to hoping that with my keen eye, and these guildlines I find some great DPS! Hopefully I can redo the interview with my GL and you guys will have that soon!
/Cheers
A few things
1. You let WOMEN in leadership positions?!?!?!?!
2. I would not have compromised your 2 day/week for a 3 day/week if it caused you to lose established members. You were changing your sechedule to get more recruits when in reality the right fit for your guild is going to match your current schedule. If you wanted more progression then fine, but not for people you may or may not get in the future.
3. The decision isn’t about recruiting a “monk or hunter” keep healing classes that you need open, including your hubby’s class. Put those at “high” on your list of needs and actively recruit from the forums etc. decide which classes you could take rather than the “ideal” ones. You will get more apps and then be able to be a little more selective (or maybe you will only get one app from a class that isnt optimal). Either way if recruiting is that slow you are not in a position to be as picky. Each week you don’t raid you fall farther behind on gear/experience and are likely to lose others! Consider *scare music* trade chat PuGs in the interim if it is a matter of raiding or not.
4. As for a RL pick someone internal who you think will do the job well. If more than one alternate them in each night or week and see how each performs, like tryouts. You want the core of your 10 to respond well to a RL change so note that also and get their input (especially since you are all tight).
What are your raid days/times?
