I’m sure every healer who has ever healed a raid can understand the frustration of this phrase.
“Ok, let’s just get everyone topped off.”
I’m fairly certain that raid leaders, especially those that have never healed in a raid, think that healers have this pretty little button that just magically tops people off. We push it and ZOOM everyone is at full health and they’re perfectly fine.
I like to think that I’ve managed to break my GL, Wolfeson, of this habit, since every time that he says he, he stands to entertain a 3 minute tirade about why that’s not a realistic opinion.
This Is Where I Get Proved WRONG!
So, as stated in previous posts, I am leveling a healing Monk. This is going very well, and several levels back I gained access to our 3 minute healing cooldown…Let’s first take a look at the other cooldowns:
- Druid: Tranquility, Heals 5 nearby lowest heath party or raid members within 40 yards every 2 seconds for 8 seconds. (Does A LOT of healing)
- Priest: Divine Hymn, Heals 5 nearby lowest health party or raid members every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, and increases healing done to them by 10% for 8 seconds. (That sure sounds familiar)
- Shaman: Healing Tide Totem, pulses every 2 seconds, healing 5 most injured party or raid members within 40 yards for 11 seconds. (I’m sensing a theme.)
- Paladin: Devotion Aura, Inspires all party and raid members within 40 yards, granting them immunity to Silence and Interrupt effects and reduces all magic damage taken by 20% for 6 seconds. (Finally something different)
Now let’s take a look at the Monk 3 minute cooldown.
Monk: Revival, Instantly heals all party and raid members within vision for almost all their health, and clears them of any harmful magical, poison, and disease effects.
I don’t know about you guys, but that sure as hell sounds like a TOP OFF button to me!
Now mind you, I’m not mad, she’s going to be turned into my main as soon as I get her geared, but I just won’t be able to complain about RL asking up to “top people off” anymore. I especially look forward to seeing how this works in practice in a raid setting. I’ll let you guys know how it goes when I do!
/Cheers!
BAH! Darn monks, stealing my priestie thunder. That’s awesome!
Just be conscious of when and where it’s appropriate to use a top off button.
Using it during a major barrage of attacks or abilities on the raid is good.
Using it immediately after a set of abilities where there’s no deaths (and low risk of anyone dying) is generally not good. If the raid (tank being the exception) isn’t at risk of dying within 10 seconds, you can probably rely on your group spells and save the top off button for when you really need it.
That sounds more like a “save ALL the raid” button me. Godmode.. ACTIVATE!
