The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Achievements may be the worst and best thing that Blizz has ever brought to the game, the best because they are fun, and most of the time they drive us to do our best, and more insane things. Bad because it’s one more addictive aspect of the game.

Just ask my GL Wolfeson who currently has 14,750/15,240 points.

Me I’m sitting at a rather sad 8,215.

I wouldn’t say that I strive for achievements, but if they’re being done I’m definitely one of the first to sign up, but other than that they’re just Meh.

So I decided to go through the raiding, and dungeon achievements and come up with my version of the: Easiest, Hardest, Most Fun, Most Proud Of, and Most Annoying.

Not surprisingly WotLK for me held a lot of these categories, I still think they have some of the greatest achievements in the game.

You Call That An Achievement?

I think the easiest “achievement” I’ve ever done in game for raids/dungeons has to be Kiss and Make Up. When you pull Yogg’Saron, Sara is there and all you have to do it target her and /kiss.

Kissandmakeup

This feat is made easier by macros. You can just make a target and then /kiss macro and you don’t even need to be paying attention.

I don’t mind easy achievements, sometimes that’s all the people can do, and it makes you feel good.

WTB Interrupts!

Less-Rabi, that word invokes images of frustration and agony in me. It was without a doubt one of the more difficult achievements to do in game, it required you to have certain classes that could interrupt, plus those people then needed to be competent enough to do decent DPS/Tank/Heal AND interrupt on time.

Less-Rabi

Lets face it the cast you had to interrupt was not only fast, but not on a timer. I’m talking about at level as well, now it nothing cause you kill him way too fast.

I think we managed it with a Mage, a Rogue, a Death Knight, and maybe another Mage, as well as me as a Druid.

I’d like to take an Hour of your time please

Iron Dwarf Medium Rare.

IronDwarf

I’d like to meet the person that came up with this, and then beat them to death with something blunt and squishy.

First, there is no way to speed it up, I know this because at level 85 this achievement still takes about 45 minutes to do, and it’s annoyance is increased by the fact that you can EASILY do too much damage to them.

At level the difficulty was staying alive that long, and doing enough damage to get them low enough that her breath would kill them.

Luckily Blizzard was kind enough to make it cumulative, so you could kill a few every week, but heaven help you if you wanted to get it in one go.

It is to this day the most annoying achievements in the whole game.

Hee Hee Hee

For those of you who’ve never seen what the Uldum Camels look like while they strafe and jump allow me to share this video.

Camel Strafe

The first time I saw this I was going through Halls of Origination where you get a camel “mount” to do the achievement. Straw That Broke the Camels Back.

I think I laughed so hard I might have peed a little.

On top of having a mount that look monumentally “special” while jumping sideways you get to do an entire fight while mounted! It takes some doing too, if you’re not careful your camel will die and then your left feeling sad and slightly like a murderer.

MVP For EVERYONE!

I saved the hardest for last. Alone in the Dark.

Aloneinthedark

If you managed to get Alone in the Dark during content then my hats off to you. This is the only one on this list that I didn’t do at content, and it’s still hard as crap!

It wasn’t just hard it still stands as the achievement I am most proud to have.

I do it weekly now, and we still manage to wipe on it sometimes. It’s not a fight where one person is the Most Valuable Player, everyone is the MVP you have to have extremely great raiders, as well as a leader that is competent.

As always I would love to hear some of your favorite, least, favorite, or memorable achievement stories.

/Cheers

    Awesome. :)
I choked on my coffee reading this:
“I’d like to meet the person that came up with this, and then beat them to death with something blunt and squishy.”
It’s so freaking true. That achievement, well, sucks. I didn’t play when Ulduar was current, but I still don’t have that achieve – because even so-called ‘achievement runs’ skip it, it’s so annoying.
I’m not really sure I can pinpoint any particular stuff myself right now, too early for my brain to work. ;)

Well if you play Horde, which from your picture I suspect you do not, you can come on a run with us that we do every Wed. that does do it at the end for anyone willing to stick around.

Oh my some of those achievements…kurby (the spousal unit) loves them. Rest of us are like…../headdesk some times..I mean we like them and all, but we know it’s going to be an interesting night when he wants to do achievement runs!

Iron Dwarf Medium Rare (25 man) was a standing joke in our guild, someone always seemed to want it and we sucked at it. Fire-fighter and Yogg + 1 were walks in the park in comparison. The Dwarves died too soon or in the wrong place because people couldn’t control their dps or had passed the point of caring.

In fact I think the week we got Alone in the Dark (25 man) we still managed to wipe whilst killing dwarves :p

Ah, some of my many foes from the world of shift-Y. A few more I remember for their agravation factor:

“No, go away, I said DON’T bite me, stop chasing me dammit!” Actually, the part I couldn’t get for a long time was the other part, I kept on dying.

    Do A Barrel Roll!

AKA, the ultimate proof that most raiders are bad and cannot avoid fire. At all.
