Secondary Professions: When Leveling Kills
When I talk to others about leveling my professions, I am 90% of the time referring to my main professions, which for me are Jewelcrafting and Alchemy. (Yeah, I know the pain.) I think, much like child birth, or passing kidney stones, we forget the pain of leveling our secondary professions.
My very lovely and talented friend Raineva, is a perfect example of how horrible it can be, she is a tailorer and thus decided to level that, and her First Aid at the same time.
She became very Oliver-esque. “Please mob, may have s’more?”
She just couldn’t get enough Embersilk cloth, and as I was leveling my First Aid as well I couldn’t donate to the cause. Which made me feel really bad, cause I thought needed a lot of cloth.
Om Nom Nom
Cooking is by far the easiest out of all of them, yes it’s a little time consuming, but other than that I would almost call it a tertiary profession. The easiest way to get it is to do it the same time as fishing. Cast > Fish up something > Cook said thing….remember to remove fishing poll before raid….
Keep Your Eye on the Bobber
Even fishing isn’t too bad. If you do it in conjunction with dailies, and say an evening of fishing with your guildies. Guild FUN!. It’ll blow by pretty quick.
It’s a mindless activity to do when you’ve nothing better going on, say if you’re in Deepholm waiting for an illusive dragon to fly by, that in my opinion doesn’t actually exist.
Or in my case, when it’s 2 in the morning and you should be sleeping, instead you slouch in your chair and fish till you fall asleep. (I don’t have a problem!)
Indiana Jones Led me Astray
I love Indian Jones, I even love Harrison Jones, but I feel like they romanticized Archeology for me. Cause when I started leveling that god-forsaken profession I thought I was going to stab my eyes out with a blunt instrument.
Remember the turtle from Rocko’s Modern Life, “Wash ya hands, turn the page. Wash ya hands, turn the page.” that’s how I felt with archeology “Click, walk 4 feet. Click, walk 4 feet. Click, attack mob, collect fragment.”
Which is bad enough, but then the flying…oh the flying. Why are my nodes in Winterspring and then the other is in Tanaris? Huh, internet, can you riddle me that one?
I am really hopeful that in Mists they will do a better job of streamlining digsites for this profession. It is in no way fun.
It was literally a grind for me to get it to 525, and unless they are offering me the Reins of Nozdormu himself, time travel capabilities included, I probably won’t be leveling it any further.
What is your least favorite secondary profession?
/Cheers
Archaeology 100 percent. I dislike fishing but it’s nothing for the burning hatred I feel for archaeology.
My artefacts are always spread out as much as possible within a digsite. I go from Winterspring to Uldum and then back. If it’s a Night Elf dig, there is a 99 percent chance that I’ll get another scandalous night gown.
If some of the greys were usable, I’d probably like it more. For example take the nightgown, if you could equip it just for hanging out in SW/Orgrimmar at least there would be a purpose to it.
Yeah i’ve always wanted to know what the Nightgown skin would look like.
Archaeology is evil. Dangling shiny mounts and pets and knick knacks in front of you… giving you that “Just one more artifact and I’ll find what I’m looking for” mentality.
And all the while you suffer through the endless flying and clicking and slowly arthritis takes hold and your eyes glaze over…and you suddenly realize all you got was a damn wind chime.
