So for the finale of my Addon Series I wanted to touch on a subject that I hear a lot about. Are addons just a crutch and are those of us that use them just not trying hard enough?
STOP STANDING IN STUFF!
There are two addons that I know of that are excellent, when they are up to date, at track boss mechanics, as well as general fight mechanics. Deadly Boss Mods, and Big Wigs.
Personally I use DBM, but it’s up to you.
So is it a requirement to have this? No.
Is raiding 1000% more fun, and less frustration with it? Yes.
As I think any raider, and certainly any raid leader can tell you, having the addon that can tell you when certain mechanics are going to happen is paramount to have a successful raid.
HEALING FOR EVERYONE!
Healing addons, I for one, have healed without an addon for the beginning part of my WoW career. I would like to never do it again.
I spouted for years that healers, by far, have the hardest job in the game. Being aware of everything that is going on around them, participating in the mechanics, and making sure that everyone is alive, and not cursed/poisoned/etc.
So making our lives just a little easier by having an addon that streamlines healing seems like a no brainer.
Once again.
So is it a requirement to have this? No.
Is raiding 1000% more fun, and less frustrating with it? Yes.
SHINY!
- My map has swirly druid leaves around it.
- My bags are perfectly organized.
- Hunting for herbs and mining nodes is much easier for me.
- Oh look you were top DPS for that fight.
I call them Quality of Life addons. They are most certainly not necessary for the game, but all of them make some aspect of my gaming experience more enjoyable/easier. If you refer back to the bold, italicized, and underlined word, it is a GAME.
I am supposed to enjoy myself.
So once more for the cheap seats.
Are addons a requirement to play World of Warcraft? No.
Do they make the game experience 1000% more fun and less frustrating? Yes, they generally do.
/Cheers
As a side note: Thank you all for putting up with the rather lack luster posts this week, it turns out getting married is very time consuming and exhausting.
As an FYI on the first section, I recommend GTFO.
GTFO does one thing basically: starts making loud noises when you’re standing in the bad.
Every single person who does any dungeons or raids should be using GTFO. It is just so insanely useful.
I will have to check this out!
Rememeber that Blizzard admitted to designing raid encounters around people being able to play with addons… Yes, addons are a crutch but if I had to stop using them suddenly I’d just quit WoW instead :-p
