Addon Wars: AdiBags vs ArkInventory vs Blizz Bags

So one of the things that I am a stickler for in WoW is the organization of my bags and bank, so needless to say I’ve looked at a few of the addons. I’ll be comparing AdiBags vs ArkInventory vs Standard Blizz Bags.

AdiBags

This is the addon that I am currently using, and I’ve enjoyed it for quite sometime. It is an all-in-one bag, so you have a single condensed window.

Then the addon automatically separates all of the contents; armor is listed under armor, quest items under quest items, etc. If you have a gear set saved in your Equipment Manager it will separate it under that tag as well.

One of the features that I enjoy the most is the “New Item” feature. When you place something new into your bags, it doesn’t immediately categorize it instead it sits at the upper left hand side of the bag with a animated border that sparkles indicating it’s new.

Which if you’re questing is REALLY nice, no more digging through your bags, or trying to remember the items name for the search bar.

If it’s not a quest item, it’s just say, a new red gem. All you have to do is press the small “N” button at the top right side and it’ll tuck it away in it’s proper place.

The bag does also have a standard search bar, so if you do manage to loose something you can still search for it.

ArkInventory

Before I found AdiBags, I used ArkInventory, which like AdiBags is an all-in-one solution. However with ArkInventory you customize your “individual” bags yourself, both nice and a hassle.

I enjoy the fact that I can have as many sub-categories for my crafting materials as I’d like, rather than my gems and enchanting mats touching. However, it’s not as much plug and play a the aforementioned AdiBags.

Edit Mode looks something like this:

There is one rather large aspect of this bag, which is very nice if you are an altoholic, you can look and see what your other characters have in their bags, without having to switch over.

Even better, for me, is you can check your bank, and your gbank anywhere with the touch of a button. Mind you, you can’t take anything out of these, but I can’t count the amount of times that I buy something, or farm something thinking I have none of it, only to find out when I get back to Org that I have 2 stacks sitting in my bank.

NOTE: When you first get this addon, please disable the gbank option, otherwise when you go to use your gbank it’ll be VERY confusing. Heaven forbid you organize your gbank using this. (Not that I’ve EVER done that.)

You also have several other windows you can look at:

  • Pets
  • Mounts
  • Auctions
  • More that I can’t remember.

Standard Blizz Bags

There are some of you that like having your bags separated and you meticulously organize each one, and then utilize the search bar to find items. I applaud you, I don’t have nearly the patience to maintain my bags like that. Especially not when there is another option.

As I just stated Blizz did finally add a search bar function, which is long time coming. I can see standard bags, becoming more favorable now that you can search. I just have bad memories of going square by square looking for that one object that you need and seem to have lost in the nether of your bags space.

Granted as with any post, these are just my opinions, I feel like addons are a more personal choice than the class you play, so whether you agree with me or not. I hope that you have a system that works for you.

Also I started this post using AdiBags, and after taking screenshots I moved back to ArkInventory, apparently I forgot how much I liked it.

Next Friday I’ll be taking a look at Vuhdo vs Healbot vs Grid. (May the Goddess have mercy on my soul.)

/Cheers!

Nice review there! I’ve used arkinventory before but when I was having computer problems, I dumped a lot of add-ons to try to improve my lag…turned out to be a video card issue…but I never picked another inventory add-on back up.

I may try the adibags one, since it is more plug and play than arkinventory…though I am the type you described with the blizzard bags. I tend to organize all my stuff that way and then all the new stuff winds up in my two empty bags!

I look forward to your Vuhdo/Healbot/Grid post..I tend to stick with Vuhdo now, but I’ve used all three in the past!

It’s all up to your level of commitment, ArkInventory is an hour of commitment to really set it up. Adi does it all for you.
